Anyone who knows me, knows I love movies. I might even go a little further and say, “Anyone who knows me might say that I was obsessed with movies.”
To that I would say, “Fair.”
A few quick caveats before I begin…All movies on this list will be accessible on either Amazon Prime, Hulu or Netflix. I know that eliminates quite a few films, but it’s impossible to guess who has what in their own personal film collection. And you can’t really drive around the corner for a rental like you use to. So this should help be an equalizer.
(If you ever need to find a movie…check out this VERY helpful site.)
In no particular order –
Congo – If you have not seen this movie yet, you are in for a real treat. It has nearly everything you could want/ ask for. A talking gorilla, a man in love with that talking gorilla, Tim Curry, Tim Curry with a insane accent, Erie Hudson playing Nathan Fillon, a Bruce Campbell cameo and Laura Linney! I know, Laura Linney! The movie will definitely keep you awake, glued to the tv and asking why. They movie will have you asking why, not the edibles. Remember that for later.
eXistenZ – This movie is from 1999, the same year The Matrix came out, and while the basic idea for both films are very similar, the films themselves could not be more different. A David Cronenberg film that really lives up to being a Cronenberg film (if you do not know what that means, don’t worry – watch this movie, and problem solved). Gaming stoners will especially get a kick out of how they turn their gaming systems on in the future.
Coherence – This very underrated, but very B film is fantastic. No big expensive sets or effects, just B level dialogue with moments of C level acting. Do not let this dissuade you from checking this creepy scfi thriller out. Once the twist is revealed, you will want to rewind and watch it all unfold again. And not because you are high and missed what was going on…
Troll Hunter – A foreign film, and yes you have to read subtitles. Or, if you have a group of friends over for Stoner Movie Night – use this movie as your own Mystery Science Theater. You will not regret it. Either way, this movie is a surreal experience and not your typical genre movie.
Ex Machina – Eat an edible, watch this film and never trust technology or the men who make it again. Oscar Issac is incredible, and so is his co star/ Star Wars enemy Domhnall Gleeson. This movie took the indie scene by storm, check out what everyone was talking about.
