I had every intention of writing a blog yesterday. I did not get it done though. Here we are for blog 2, and only a day late.
Today’s topic:”what it takes to bring an edible to market”.
We ask today as our newest/ holiday item Peppermint Bark releases in dispensaries around Washington, DC.
Step 1 - Figure out your recipe
We knew we wanted to make something for the holiday season. Doing something seasonal is always a fun change of pace. In our opinion, one of the best seasonal treats is Peppermint Bark. That perfect combination of chocolate and fresh mint.
Step 2 - Do some math
So the recipe is done. Now the math formula begins. Add the ingredients together, the packaging, the lab costs (this will be a whole other step), and labor to make em and pack em. Make sure that number makes sense for you and your company. How many pieces do you need to make in order for the math to make sense? Only you will know that answer.
Step 3 - Get to work
Start making your item.
Step 4 - Start to market your product
When you are making your item, it can also be a great time to snap some pics of the item. You will want to save these for social media and to share with clients or post on your own website.
Step 5 - Get ready for the lab
This is the first major hurdle in the whole process. These guys will keep you honest. What happens is the lab comes to your facility to pick up your product. You will present to them the production batch, and they will randomly select however many pieces they want. Not only do they run on a potency test on the item, a whole battery of tests are run to determine mold, yeast, and bacteria numbers.
If the lab calls you with news that you missed your mg target, well you just have to adjust. You should also go back to the recipe stage and see what went wrong.
Eventually, the lab is going to email you some test results for your item. Now those results are available on all PINK FOX products. Shameless plug.
Step 6 - Package and Distribute
Normally, this chapter title would sound like charges being read. But in this case it is what you have been waiting for. You are ready for sales.
Our Peppermint Bark is a seasonal release and only 2,000 pieces were produced! Each piece is 10mg of thc. Like all our edibles, the high would be more of a hybrid, but another blog will come on that topic. A much longer blog. The Peppermint Bark is a piece of solid white chocolate. The chocolate has been infused with a little peppermint oil, and of course PINK FOX’s special ingredient. And finally topped with crushed peppermint sticks. It is the perfect flavor for the holidays. It is being sold in individual packs and makes a great stocking stuffer.
Thanks for reading and talk to you soon.
